NavigateStorage, a US based reseller, recently added Fujistu to its broad array of Storage - SAN and NAS solutions that also includes data-deduplication and tape solutions.
Another example is the October 2010 expansion of the Fujitsu and NetApp relationship*, which began in 1998 and is now extended through 2013, in which Fujitsu (~2% of NetApp’s revenue) will resell NetApp’s FAS products in additional countries worldwide, starting in Germanyand rolling through the rest of the EMEA region within the next sixmonths. In return, NetApp, for the first time in its corporate history, will resell a third-party hardware solution, in this case Fujitsu’s ETERNUS CS800 S2 Data Protection Appliance, which utilizes Quantum’s dedupe technology (DXi). Thus, NetApp gains an appliance-baseddedupe offering that can be targeted at secondary/nearline storageenvironments."

Scalar i500, i6000 and 10K Promotion: Buy Three LTO-5 Drives Get One Free and Free Scalar i6000 Library Upgrade
For valid orders received by Quantum, we are offering a promotion on LTO-5 drives for Scalar i500, Scalar i6000 and Scalar 10K tape libraries. In addition, when upgrading a Scalar i2000 with LTO-5 drives, customers receive a free i2000 to i6000 library upgrade.
Key Messages
LTO-5 capacity, performance and security features are ideally suited for archive and long-term data retention.
LTO-5 leads the industry in cartridge capacity and throughput performance. The ability to store 3TB of data on a single cartridge is nearly 2X the capacity of LTO-4 and 4X that of LTO-3. This capacity increase allows customers to keep up with high data growth rates while maintaining the same library footprint.
At 280MB/s throughput, LTO-5 completes jobs faster than any other tape format.
Native encryption and WORM technologies offer customers the security features needed for compliance and privacy initiatives.
LTO-5 can read/write to LTO-4 cartridges and read LTO-3 cartridges, protecting customer investment in prior LTO technologies. Continued investment in LTO-5 is also protected since LTO is, by far, the leading tape format in the industry.
New Scalar i6000 offers Scalar i2000 customers more capacity, improved im-port/export capabilities, new reports, Media Data Integrity Analysis, Native Storage Networking, and access to LTO-5 tape drives.

Stonefly SCVM™ (Storage Concentrator Virtual Machine)
The StoneFly SCVM Virtual IP SAN Software Appliance creates a virtual IPSAN using the existing resources of your virtual server. It is a Virtual IP SAN appliance Software for VMWare or Hyper-V environments. It provides an advanced, fully featured iSCSI SAN/Storage within a VMWare or Hyper-V Virtual Machine. You do not need another box for your storage. Create an iSCSI Virtual SAN Appliance along with your Server Virtual Machines within the same Hardware platform. Increase your productivity, simplify your management, and reduce your power and rack space by simply loading an SCVM in a Virtual Machine.
By creating a StoneFly iSCSI Target within a VMWare or Hyper-V Virtual Server, StoneFly customers may reallocate existing hardware resources to create business continuity and disaster recovery solution. Using StoneFly synchronous mirroring within the datacenter and distributed campus, or using asynchronous mirroring (replication) between remote facilities, enables StoneFly customers to have an instantaneous recovery, and eliminate loss of access to storage during disasters.
This tool enables our customers to lower operational datacenter costs plus provide a quick RTO (Return to Operation) in the event of a local site failure. In essence the SCVM™ is giving our customers the ability to create their own “DR Site in a box”.
If you are looking for all the functionality of an IPSAN, but lack of budget and space holding you off from buying an external SAN, StoneFly SCVM is the product you want.
These SCVMs can be clustered together to transform your existing server storage into a clustered storage system that is managed as a single SAN. This allows you to use all VMware ESX or Hyper-V advanced features that need shared storage. You can use SCVM to provide storage to multiple servers without disruption and you can also increase the storage as needed.
Installed easily on any VMware ESX or ESXi or Hyper-V server, the SCVM gives the consolidation of server and storage into one platform resulting in saving in space, power, cooling and overall management.

iSCSI SAN best practices for small businesses
iSCSI storage area networks (SANs) are becoming increasingly popular in small- and medium-sized businesses (SMBs). According to Storage magazine's October 2010 Purchasing Intentions survey, 44% of survey respondents either deployed or plan to deploy an iSCSI system this year -- the highest number so far. Much of iSCSI's growth appears to be coming from medium-sized businesses; 52% of those surveyed are installing iSCSI this year, a six point jump from a year ago. But larger organizations are also increasingly opting for iSCSI; 39% have deployed iSCSI or plan to -- a four-point increase vs. last fall. While attracting larger businesses, iSCSI SAN storage has maintained its solid presence in small companies, with 42% taking the iSCSI route this year.
We have iSCI solutions of all sizes and price catagories from $8,000 to 100's of thousands.

Next-Generation Email Archiving
The fast-growing volume of email presents major challenges for all organizations. According to Ferris Research, the average information worker sends over 600 emails in a given week. Many of these emails are either business records or contain valuable corporate knowledge and need to be retained accordingly. Keeping a large volume of email leads to higher storage costs and headaches for IT staff in the form of longer back-up windows. In fact, Osterman Research states, message stores have grown 30% from winter 2007 to winter 2008. As message stores grow, organizations face challenges with:
Managing Storage Costs – getting content off expensive production systems
Timely Recovery Times – reducing recovery point objectives and ever-expanding back-up windows
Ending Firefights – lowering cost of reactive collection and review
Mitigating Content-related Risks – ensuring proper usage of content within the organization

StoneFly, Inc. Combines Best-in-Class Performance with Superior Volume-Level Encryption in New IP SAN Upgrade
New StoneFusion Operating System Release Supports Fully-Encrypted Data Between Local and Remote IP SAN Appliances, Across LANs and WANs
Hayward, CA – February 18, 2010 – StoneFly™, Inc., a leading supplier of integrated IP storage area network (SAN) systems, today launched a new release of its StoneFusion™ operating system (OS), offering upgraded mirror encryption capabilities that reinforce the company's tradition of delivering the highest levels of data protection combined with best-in-class storage performance.
By sending encrypted data from the local IP SAN over the wide area network (WAN) during replication—and not encrypting it a second time as other systems do at the point when the data arrives at the remote SAN—StoneFusion ensures that data travels rapidly across the wire, remaining both fully protected and fully encrypted. This approach makes use of the advanced AES 256 encryption algorithm, a standard adopted by the U.S. government, and enables StoneFly to efficiently deliver both encrypted and non-encrypted volumes to the same remote SAN.
"With StoneFusion, StoneFly has continued to employ a performance-based approach to data protection since pioneering the IP SAN marketplace a decade ago," says Bahman Jalali, director of engineering and product management for StoneFly. "In fact, Stonefly's patented IP SAN architecture introduces no performance penalty when data is encrypted and written to disks. In taking this approach, we bring our customers the best of both worlds, delivering both superior security and market-leading performance, all in a simple-to-use IP SAN."
Ideal for applications in medical, finance and government, StoneFly IP SANs offer compliance with patient privacy and data control measures for HIPAA, JCAHO, Medicare and Medicaid, along with PCI and GLBA compliance for the financial industry. The upgraded StoneFusion release provides added value to data-intensive installations in these markets, where minimizing performance degradation during encryption is critical.
StoneFusion is a standard integrated component of all StoneFly IP SANs, and offers a complete portfolio of storage and data protection features including a patented storage virtualization engine. In addition, the StoneFusion OS v6.3.2 incorporates StoneFly Reflection™ for local and campus mirroring; StoneFly Snapshot™ for fast, efficient data recovery; and advanced features such as Quick Sync, for rapidly restoring mirrored iSCSI volumes in the event of a storage path or site failure.
Existing customers can contact NavigateStorage for information about upgrading to StoneFusion OS v6.3.2.

SAS 70
"Statement on Auditing Standards (SAS) No. 70, Service Organizations, is a widely recognized auditing standard developed by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA). A service auditor's examination performed in accordance with SAS No. 70 (also commonly referred to as a 'SAS 70 Audit') is widely recognized, because it represents that a service organization has been through an in-depth audit of their control objectives and control activities, which often include controls over information technology and related processes. In today's global economy, service organizations or service providers must demonstrate that they have adequate controls and safeguards when they host or process data belonging to their customers. In addition, the requirements of Section 404 of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002 make SAS 70 audit reports even more important to the process of reporting on the effectiveness of internal control over financial reporting."

What are the differences between file-level vs. block-level deduplication?
"Many different data backup vendors provide data deduplication services, so expect to find subtle differences in how both file-level deduplication and block-level deduplication are implemented. In general, file-level deduplication watches for multiple copies of the same file, stores the first copy, and then just links the other references to the first file. Only one copy gets stored on the disk/tape archive. Ultimately, the space you save on disk relates to how many copies of the file there were in the file system."
Block-level, sometimes called variable block-level deduplication, looks at the data block itself to see if another copy of this block already exists. If so, the second (and subsequent) copies are not stored on the disk/tape, but a link/pointer is created to point to the original copy. For example, John's copy of a file may in fact just be a pointer to Mary's file -- if Mary's file was the first to be archived.
There are pros and cons associated with both file-level and block-level deduplication. For instance, if 1,000 identical attachments are sent out by a benefits coordinator, file-level dedupe will find those 1,000 attachments that are exactly the same, but it won't find the exact duplicate copies you saved (i.e., Benefits_file.Aug, Benefits_file.Sep, Benefits_file.Oct, etc.). Block-level dedupe will find all of the duplicates, even if named differently, and will store the name variations with pointers to the original blocks. Variable block-level will also account for misaligned data sets on disk and would also detect the duplicate files and exact copies with different names.
File-level deduplication will save a relatively small amount of space on your disk/tape archive. Block-level deduplication will save more space on your disk/tape archive, and variable block-level deduplication will save even more space on your disk/tape archive. However, as with any other data storage technology or technique, be advised that your mileage will vary depending on the amount of replicated data you have in your file systems.

Here's a snippet about NearPoint.
Mimosa NearPoint for Microsoft Exchange has incorporated an innovative data capture approach called Continuous Application Shadowing™ where Exchange log files are captured the instant they are committed to disk and stores them “off-host” on NearPoint. Continuous Application Shadowing is an application-intelligent process that blocks corruption from the backup copy. All email content extracted from the log files is indexed and stored with single-instance storage. Continuous Application Shadowing also captures the complete Exchange mailbox information, including contacts, calendars, personal folders, as well as email stored offline in PST files and all email content found in public folders — a major advantage for eDiscovery and Exchange recovery.

Red Condor a closer look at Hosted
Over the years, email filters became a crucial factor in allowing us to open our in-boxes without cringing. It doesn't matter how careful you are about giving out your email address, it will eventually find itself on spam lists and you'll be subjected to the barrage of worthless and malicious emails that you would rather do without.
Owners of private e-mail addresses hosted on web-based email services usually don't even have to think about filtering - the service probably thought of that. If you work at a big company that has its own IT department, you won't have to think about filtering, but if you own a small business or have a small IT budget and team, you might consider a Software-as-a-Service solution.Red Condor's Hosted Service is a good choice.
It's actually very simple to set up and extremely effective, and will prevent you becoming a target of spam, viruses, phishing schemes, offensive content, and other threats.
It works like this: you redirect your MX records to Red Condor's servers. There the emails are filtered and only the legitimate ones are passed on to your mail server. Real-time knowledge gathered from a worldwide sensor network is used to create heavy-duty filter rules. The filters analyze emails by content, keywords and behavior to separate the wheat from the chaff - so to speak. You don't have to think about software or hardware installation, or even about filter tuning- and in case one of your email servers goes down, Red Condor stores your email for up to 96 hours until your server is brought back online.
Another great feature is outbound mail filtering,so if a PC in your network gets infected and turns into a "zombie", it will prevent the spam-sending activity and notify the administrator immediately. After registering and logging in, you access your account through a simple and very user-friendly web interface/portal.The first step is adding an account. You will be asked to input account information - name and address. Primary contact information is also required, but technical, admin and billing contact information is optional. The person that opens the account is automatically assigned administrator privileges.

Windows Management Sooftware
AutoVirt is a software platform for Windows that provides storage management control from a web-based console. Use AutoVirt to automate and expedite:
Data Measurement
Copying
Migration
Replication
Archiving
AutoVirt provides:
A solution for managing unstructured Windows file data
A way to extend the native functionality of inexpensive, commodity Windows hardware
Integration with mainframe NAS devices, including NetApp and EMC Celerra
Out-of-band runtime operations, with no client agents
An intelligent client referral service with perpetual support for client UNC names and embedded links
Using AutoVirtBy ensuring that users have a consistent point of access to their data, AutoVirt allows IT administrators to automate the movement of data within their Windows storage environments. As administrators move data to where they need it to be – business-critical data to a new device, a replica to a secondary location, last year’s share to Tier 2 storage – clients are automatically redirected to the new location of their data. By eliminating impact on end-users, AutoVirt removes a number of logistical barriers to project execution and frees IT to approach storage management more dynamically. With AutoVirt, IT administrators can design policies to automate data measurement, copying, migration, replication, and archiving. A policy is a series of logical and validation commands defined using a GUI-based wizard. Policies are schedulable and include configurable e-mail alerts and exception handling. How it worksAutoVirt inserts a global namespace to organize networked shares and shield end-users from the back-end logistics of storage management. The namespace eliminates the manual work involved in maintaining client access to networked data: it is the single authority on networked files, and automatically resolves client shortcuts to the new location. With AutoVirt’s global namespace registering all changes to data location, it is possible to automate many storage management tasks – including those that affect data location. The AutoVirt policy engine is responsible for automating data measurement, copying, migration, replication, and archiving.AutoVirt’s namespace and policy engine interact with both clients and networked file servers using the Common Internet File System (CIFS) protocol.

Email Archive Migration
The decision to move to a new e-mail or archiving service should not be constrained by the risk of losing data. Similarly the need to move users between different locations or archive products (e.g. as a result of a re-location or merger) should not threaten the accessibility or manageability of your corporate data.TransVault™ is a high-performance software application that securely migrates and consolidates e-mail and other related records from one environment to another, ensuring future accessibility - regardless of the chosen archive, messaging platform or storage medium.
Migration is fast and entirely transparent to users, eliminating the risk of downtime and significantly reducing the costs and IT overheads normally associated with moving large amounts of data.TransVault also avoids the costs and inconvenience of maintaining ‘islands of data’, allowing the lifecycle of information to be centrally managed and any e-discovery requests to be conducted against a single data repository.TransVault is the key to ensuring 100% data availability with 100% user transparency, whilst minimizing risks and costs to your business.

Data Migration made easy - windows management
Support pre-migration UNC names in shortcuts and embedded links
AutoVirt facilitates share-by-share migration, which means that there is no need to take an entire device offline during migration. AutoVirt breaks each migration job into share-sized increments. To preserve data integrity, files are held read-only while their parent shares are being migrated. As soon as a share is migrated, full read/write access is restored. The AutoVirt global namespace is updated with the new share location, and clients are automatically redirected to their share. Share-by-share migration drastically reduces downtime, and automatic client referrals eliminate post-project shortcut remapping.
To limit the time that large shares are held read-only, AutoVirt offers a pre-migration synchronization period. The sync period can be scheduled to recur as many times as you like. During the first sync period, AutoVirt copies all un-open files it finds, skipping the rest. Each recurring sync will copy any new files it finds un-open, and will synchronize changes at the source with files that have already been copied to the destination. The synchronization period will be reduced over time, until AutoVirt is syncing only a small number of changes between source and destination.
When you schedule the final migration, the share will be held read-only as final changes are synced from source to destination. When the sync is complete, clients are automatically redirected to the new share location read/write access is restored.

Global Name Spaces
The AutoVirt global namespace model is different. AutoVirt provides automated namespace creation and support of pre-existing UNC names. During installation, AutoVirt automatically inventories the file server environment to create a complete map. Administrators use this map to designate which file servers will receive client referrals through the global namespace. When a file server is selected for AutoVirt management, the map of its contents – from root to leaf-level folders – is automatically stored in the namespace.
The automated file server inventory makes it possible for AutoVirt to support indefinitely the pre-existing UNC names – even after the file servers they once referenced have crumbled to dust. Contact NavigateStorage to learn more about this great solution.

* Managing Storage Costs – getting content off expensive production systems
* Timely Recovery Times – reducing recovery point objectives and ever-expanding back-up windows
* Ending Firefights – lowering cost of reactive collection and review
* Mitigating Content-related Risks – ensuring proper usage of content within the organization
If you are considering Email, File or SharePoint archiving. Then contact NavigateStorage from our website, or call 1-978-318-9000 or write.

Nexsan storage from NavigateStorage
Assureon from Nexsan gives organizations the ability to keep only one copy of each file stored, regardless of how many users write that file to storage.
Assureon uses single instance store technology, a function of Content Addressed Storage, to identify duplicate files and store only a single copy of a file. This deduplication process is performed automatically with Assureon and is transparent to the user.
By intelligently transferring and storing a single instance of any archived file, Assureon dramatically reduces storage consumption, network bandwidth and overall cost.

Accelerate NAS environments with Tiered Appliance
Executive Summary
The storage industry is at an inflection point. High-performance solid-state drives (SSDs) are threatening the dominance of hard disk drives (HDDs), particularly expensive 15k-RPM Fibre Channel (FC) drives, in storage systems. High-capacity, inexpensive serial ATA (SATA) drives have replaced tape as the archive medium of choice. Incumbent storage vendors are struggling to include new storage media in their products, but each candidate replacement medium has particular strengths and weaknesses that existing storage operating systems do not accommodate.
Storage vendors have focused on capacity over performance even as application servers and clients require greater and greater throughput. To keep pace with the demands of your computing infrastructure, you must constantly upgrade to the latest, most expensive generation of NAS servers.
The Avere Systems FXT Series enables you to accelerate the performance of your current NAS infrastructure and lower the costs of NAS acquisition, operation, and expansion. The Avere solution also allows you to use less expensive, lower-performance NAS servers and lower-cost, high-density media such as SATA HDDs to expand your NAS infrastructure, increasing performance and extending the useful lifespan of legacy NAS systems, all while consuming less power, cooling, and rack space than traditional NAS solutions.

iBac 5.0, now offers support for Microsoft Exchange 2010
We are very excited about this announcement as Exchange 2010 has an option called Recovery Database (RDB) that allows you to recover individual mailboxes or emails without having to do a brick level backup. This means that you can now use our OVS module to backup a live Exchange server and simply backup the information store for a fast and easy to run backup. When that job is done you can then use the RDB to recover mailboxes or emails. This is much faster than traditional Brick Level backup options on the market that require you to go within the information store to backup mailboxes/emails.
