Each one at 200GB IceWEB, Inc. announced the availability of IceWEB 3000 Storage Systems with SSD technology. For high performance, I/O intensive applications, the IceWEB SS-3000HP-2.4SS contains twelve (12) SSDs and can be expanded by the IceWEB DS-500HC-3.2SS Disk Shelf containing sixteen (16) SSDs. Each 200GB SSD delivers over 30,000 read I/Os per second (IOPS), for an 360,000 IOPS for the IceWEB 3000 appliance.

SSDs can be combined with any other drive type (SAS or SATA) within the array, and high performance storage pools can be created with the SSDs alongside disk-based pools. An SSD storage pool can include iSCSI volumes, Fibre Channel LUNs, and NFS/CIFS file shares in any combination. Compared to traditional HDDs, SSDs are typically less susceptible to physical shock, quieter, and have lower access time and latency.To ensure sufficient bandwidth, each IceWEB 3000 supports up to two 10GbE or two 8Gb Fibre Channel network connections, which is sufficient to support over forty (40) SSDs at maximum IOPS rates.The solid-state drive market is projected to grow rapidly in the foreseeable future. Huawei Symantec authorizes NavigateStorage

"Huawei Symantec Technologies, the Chengdu, China-based joint venture started in 2008 by China's Huawei networking company and U.S. storage and security company Symantec, as well as, Navigatestorage is now primed to take on the competition in the North American market, its general manager says.

'This year, we made the strategic decision to enter North America,' says Jane Li, general manager of Huawei Symantec US, located in Cupertino, Calif. near Symantec. She said the firm is ready to take on competitors Cisco and Juniper as well as security vendors Check Point and Fortinet.

Report: Pentagon officials want review of Huawei deal

A few months ago privately held Huawei Symantec introduced into the North American market its Oceanspace S2600 storage platform for small- to midsized businesses; Oceanspace N8300 midrange and high-end storage; and Secospace USG2000 BSR/HSR multi-purpose gateway, which combines switching, routing, wireless access and voice service with security functions that include firewall, intrusion-protection and anti-spam.

Last October, Symantec Huawei announced Condre Storage as its authorized distributor and today said it has also signed a distribution agreement with Synnex.

According to Li, Symantec Huawei has about 1,000 customers, though none disclosed. Huawei Symantec's revenues also aren't disclosed, though parent firm Huawei's 2010 revenues are estimated at $3.4 billion, according to Dell'Oro Group. Symantec earlier this year reported non-GAAP revenue of about $6 billion for its 2010 fiscal year.

The joint venture Huawei Symantec is 51% owned by Huawei and 49% owned by Symantec, with John Thompson (Symantec's chairman) as its chairman and Ren Zhengfei (CEO of Huawei) as its CEO. The joint venture was established in 2008 with $150 million from Symantec, and Huawei contributing "in kind" with engineering based in China, says Li.

While some of the technologies used in the Huawei Symantec products -- including the firewall and anti-virus and anti-spam filtering capabilities -- originate with Symantec, other technical aspects, such as switching, are either Huawei contributions or combined expertise in storage.

New StoneFusion Operating System Release Supports Fully-Encrypted Data Between Local and Remote IP SAN Appliances, Across LANs and WANs

Hayward, CA – February 18, 2010 – StoneFly™, Inc., a leading supplier of integrated IP storage area network (SAN) systems, today launched a new release of its StoneFusion™ operating system (OS), offering upgraded mirror encryption capabilities that reinforce the company's tradition of delivering the highest levels of data protection combined with best-in-class storage performance.

By sending encrypted data from the local IP SAN over the wide area network (WAN) during replication—and not encrypting it a second time as other systems do at the point when the data arrives at the remote SAN—StoneFusion ensures that data travels rapidly across the wire, remaining both fully protected and fully encrypted. This approach makes use of the advanced AES 256 encryption algorithm, a standard adopted by the U.S. government, and enables StoneFly to efficiently deliver both encrypted and non-encrypted volumes to the same remote SAN.
